Home Sweet Home - Finally!

It's been a while since our last update, so here's one that is pretty long overdue!

We've finally moved in to our own place last 2 weekends, on Sunday,
15th March 2009. In fact, it's taken almost 5 years for this house to be ready and we finally can say that we now have our own place to live!

Our little living room, furnished as simple as possible!

For the past few months we've been furnishing it to make it our own little cosy pad. Now, we're proud to say that it's almost ready and just nice to fit in the 3 of us. But, the process was pretty long!

Our house in D'Rimba, Kota Damansara was supposed to be completed late 2007, but due to delays and a lot of dilly-dally and incompetence from the developer, it was only completed early 2008.
(warning note: please don't ever buy from Jerneh-Matang PGMS again!)

The house were full of defects and Ed had to go though the whole process of complaints, getting the defects to be rectified and do the necessary renovation and furnishing. Thanks to everyone, from families and close friends, we managed to pull it through. Syukur!

Nia painting the room with E'ah's help in 2008!

The paint job continues.. Paints bought from Kansai Paints. Thanks Kak Ude!

Wood flooring by FloorDepot late December 2008!

Officiating the kitchen cabinets by frying karipap.
Cabinets & appliances by Rowenta Kitchen..

We're still waiting for some stuff to be installed such as our wardrobe and study table, but all in all, it was a fullfiling experience. Moving in is one thing, maintaining the house is also another challenge all in itself.

We hope our refinance issue would soon be completed as well.

Hence, on Sunday, 15th March, we had a small gathering of families from both sides over for hi-tea to celebrate the moving in! It was a pot-luck event and Alhamdulillah, we're pleased that we had plenty of choices that day! We were honoured to have such a great turnout that day and we really thank everyone for coming to our little place.

Before we enjoyed the feast, Papa led us to a short prayer to thank Him for this new place we now call home and for all the rezeki He had bestowed upon us and our family. From starters to deserts, even little Nadyne had her tummy filled of variety of food. By the end of the day, we were glad that there were not much of leftovers and even if there were, they were just enough for us to have it for breakfast the next morning.

Look at the house being filled with families & friends plus FOOD!

The next day however, Nadyne was unfortunate to have caught the flu. Thankfully, Nia was on leave so she stayed home to take care of little Nadyne. She also extended her leave for another day and had to go on Medical Leave on Wednesday after she, herself had caught the virus from little Nadyne.

So, our first few days at our new place were spent with the Influenza virus. We have yet to take little Nadyne swimming at the pool since she's been sick and furthermore, it's been raining for the past couple of weeks now.

We are planning to have Nadyne's 1st birthday bash at the pool house soon. It'll be our first major event at our own place, sort of a 'house warming' for us and everyone will be invited. Will update on that soon.

The full pictures from the Tahlil housewarming can be found here.

..::Reflections : 2008 in retrospect & Ushering 2009 with Hope::..

So, here we go again.. it's another New Year, in Islamic calendar: 1430 Hijrah and 2009 for the rest of us..

Have you been thinking about new beginnings and start new list of resolutions that most of the time, will probably end up being just that: resolutions without any actions? Let's hope some of us will make that resolutions a reality..

I love reflecting on the past (sometimes even dwelling too much!) and here, I'll share some of the highlights & lowdowns of 2008 for me personally and also for us as a family/couple.

Frankly, to the world, 2008 will probably be the most eventful year of all. We have the one of the best Summer Olympics in China, the EURO 2008 @ Austria & Switzerland that Spain won (finally!), our own March 8 General Election results that defies all odds and of course Barack Obama becoming the next US president (that again, defies all odds too!) and

So, let's get to it. Here are some of the highlights of 2008 for me (and us) in no particular order (except NO 1!)

  1. I become a FATHER i.e. we become first time parents! Wooohoooo! Our bundle of joy, Aryanna Nadyne born healthy and with glowing eyes on the eve or during the sunset of 10th April 2008...
  2. Errrr, I successfully job-hopped to 4 lucrative jobs/positions..
  3. I undergone my 1st major back surgery under general anaesthetics (herniated lumbar disc) @ HKL and survived..
  4. Celebrated our 1st anniversary in Phuket
  5. Slowly but surely getting our D'Rimba house renovated and ready to be occupied for 2009!
  6. Enjoyed and attended our inaugural PJ family trip @ SummerSet, Kuala Rompin (just recently)!
  7. Attended some of the best personal development events like T. Harv Eker's Millionaire Mind Intensive, Global Internet Summit, WangCyber 1st gathering, Gobala Krishnan's Bootcamp, Global Entrepreneur Week Start-Up camp etc which leads me to meeting all these incredible internet marketing gurus and entrepreneurs.
Yes, there are lowdowns too, since my 2009 resolution is to live in the present and not dwell too much on the past, so I'm gonna let that slide.. :)

As for 2009, well, we have sooo many plans, hope and aspirations.. But for now, let us all pray that 2009 be a better year for everyone even when the going gets tough...

..HAVE A GREAT & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR..

..On Tony Fernandes and the Malaysian Brands..

Season's Greetings to everyone!

So, there's only like 10 days left of 2008 and soon we will welcome 2009 with full of hope and anticipation. For once, things are probably not as rosy as we'd like it to be in terms of the global economic outlook, environment and even political stability.

But, this post is not actually about reflection just yet. I will do that soon enough before we usher in the new year. It's more about my latest ventures and where it has led me.

My latest hop have brought me to BFM 89.9, a new business start-up - the one and only business radio station in Malaysia. It's basically like theEdge or CNBC, but on radio!

It has been a really fun ride so far and the highlight was last Friday, where we had Tony Fernandes (Dato' Seri I should add), our very own Malaysian 'Sir Richard Branson' being interviewed on our Breakfast Grille by Alan Bligh. I've always been passionate on entrepreneurship and branding, and having the master himself coming into our office and giving a great interview is such a bonus!

I wouldn't want to spoil too much on what he was grilled on, so here, you can listen to some snippets of it or even download the whole podcasts from BFM's site.

Tony on surviving the hard times:

Say what you want about Tony, one thing you can't deny is he's an expert in building great brands. The AirAsia success stories have been told around the world, from humble beginnings to the no 1 low cost carrier in this region (and more). And now, you can even fly his plane from Malaysia to London using AirAsiaX, on a budget!

In the end of the interivew, he shared his love for innovation and that's what makes great brand lasts. They innovate and be more creative when the going gets tough... To be a global brand that stays competitive, you need to innovate and stay true to the core values of your brand/products/services. Each one of your business need to have their own brand identity.

Tony on Facebook!

I'm a sucker for great brandings and creative campaigns. Even if the products are not that competitive (or pretty much 'sucks'), but if their ad campaign is creative and really hits the spot, you can bet that people (i.e. yours truly) will still very much end up buying them!

The BFMers (me included) with Tony himself!

Tony Fernandes leaving his branding message on my organiser!

Malaysians business can really learn a lot from Tony & the AirAsia stories. But sometimes, learning by copying
directly is what our Malaysian businesses loves to do.. It's great for
people like me as a consumer coz we have more choices, but for people
like Tony, it means he has to think of more creative ways to remain
competitive and keep being no 1! Plus, businesses needs competition and
fair competition is always good! Say no to monopoly!

This is what Tony wrote on my 'Starbucks' organiser

To Ed, Believe the Unbelieveable, Lots of Love: Tony

Well, my message to Tony and the team @ AirAsia, please hire me, keep on innovating and may 2009 and beyond BRINGS FRESHER MEANINGS to you.

Cheers.
Ed
